Koshur Dude welcomes contributors to submit their unpublished work as well as previously published work that can be circulated under any standard Creative Commons license or that has been authorized for republication (with due credit) by the original/source publication.
We welcome submissions in the following categories:
- Current affairs related to Kashmir or elsewhere but connected to Kashmir.
- Fiction – Short stories, experimental prose.
- Poetry
- Film and music reviews, entertainment, culture, and history surrounding Kashmir.
- Artwork, photography, and book reviews.
- Interviews, opinion pieces, think pieces, first-person accounts, and narratives.
- Satirical news (without bias or foul language).
While we don’t impose a specific word limit, original and unpublished submissions typically remain under 2000 words, although exceptions are possible.
We accept submissions in multiple languages, provided a translation and transliteration in English accompanies the text. Submissions must generally adhere to British or American English standards.
Style Guide:
- Ensure the introduction of your story/article is accurate and concise.
- Spell out numbers under 10 and use figures for numbers above 10. E.g. Two people were arrested and 19 people protested.
- Use the Month/Day/Year date format (e.g., January 20, 2017). The inauguration of the 46th president of the United States took place on January 20, 2017.
- Avoid using yesterday, today and tomorrow unless the item is an update. The same applies to time. Instead of writing 9 pm tonight, use 9 pm Sunday.
- Incorporate hyperlinks where necessary.
- Use of Kashmiri and Urdu words (any local dialect) can be used with their meaning in brackets. If it’s a hard news item, avoid local language. If it’s a narrative, opinion or a feature story, local dialects can be used depending upon how strong the content is.
To submit your work to Koshur Dude, please:
- Edit and proofread your submission thoroughly.
- Prepare your work as a Microsoft Word Document or Google Docs file. If images are included, ensure they are in JPG format with proportions no larger than 1000px by 1000px, and insert them into the Word Document or Google Docs with relevant caption information.
- Include a square author photo (500 pixels by 500 pixels in JPG format) with your submission. If no photo is provided, we will select a placeholder image.
- We select a proper image for each piece, that is 1200 pixels x 628 pixels. If you would like to select an image of your own, you can email it to us with your submission for consideration.
- Email your submission to submissions[at]koshurdude[dot]in along with a brief one-paragraph author bio.
Note:
If a fresh piece has been sent for publication to multiple publications, we request the authors to inform us about it.
If you publish your original work with us and then republish it somewhere else, you must seek our permission in order for us to be given due credit for publishing such work first.
All other media that does not fit into email attachments due to space restrictions should be shared via Google Drive, Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive link, or any major large file transfer service.
