K-Twitter, the Kashmiri community on Twitter, was recently hit by a wave of shock and disbelief after the news of the sudden demise of a popular Twitter user, Toiba Javaid, spread like wildfire on the platform. The news was shared by several Twitter accounts, leaving the K-Twitter community in a state of mourning.
Toiba Javaid was an active member of the K-Twitter community and used to interact with various Kashmiri twitter users on the platform. She was known for her discussions on cricket and other topics of interest to the community.
The news of her death was shared by several Twitter accounts, hence leaving the K-Twitter in a state of shock and disbelief. People started calling her an “angel” and “brave” for what she was and what she stood for, and reportedly some boys have not eaten since the death of Toiba.
The real account was reported by many users and subsequently got deactivated. Her followers were yet to come out of the shock of her death when the news of her ‘being alive’ befell them when a Twitter account with the same username popped up. This drew suspicions about the news as nobody knew her in reality and people claimed it was a ‘prank’.
Koshur Dude talked to the locals where Toiba was believed to be from, Dangerpora Sopore. According to the locals, nothing like this happened there. A tweet related to a girl named Toiba from Dangerpora Sopore has been viral for the last few days, claiming that the said girl was suffering from cancer and died recently. However, as per the locals, no such incident has happened there.
As of now, K-Twitter is divided over whether the news of Toiba’s death is true or it was a prank. Some people are claiming that it was a hoax, while others believe that it is real. This has led to a virtual war going on between her followers on Twitter, with some demanding an FIR against Twitter users for peddling a fake news.
Sources told Koshur Dude that a female Twitter user weepingly said in a Twitter space that the news is real and she had indeed passed away. She promised to provide proof soon.. “I will give you proof soon,” she said. Some people even donated to NGO as sadaqaye jariya for her.
“Already ordered a sewing machine for a family didn’t knew a death prank would be a zariya for this family but if someone wants their donation back please dm,” the member from NGO tweeted.
Questions have been raised on the authenticity of the news, with some Twitter users pointing out that Toiba’s Twitter bio link was removed only after the news was out, raising suspicions.
“On a death bed, is it possible to remove the link from the bio?” a user tweeted.
The K-Twitter community includes various Kashmiri journalists, academicians, students and every Kashmiri who tweets from Kashmir. However, the thing is that almost nobody knew each other’s reality. They knew each other only on Twitter.
The news of Toiba Javaid’s alleged death has not only affected her followers but also created a sense of mistrust among the K-Twitter community, with many questioning the authenticity of the news and the impact of social media on our lives.
The term “K-Twitter” was trending on Twitter yesterday, and the decision is still pending. We are awaiting further developments in this story.
