In the beautiful valleys of Kashmir, a troubling trend has taken root – students are being pushed to become only doctors and engineers. From a young age, many face immense pressure from family, friends and society to pick these two career paths alone.
But is this narrow focus really good for Kashmir’s future? Of course, we need great doctors and engineers. However, our society requires a vibrant mix of many other talented people too.
Think of an ambitious entrepreneur fearlessly turning their dream business idea into reality. Their innovative spirit can generate jobs and solve modern problems. Or an inspiring teacher whose passion ignites young minds. A skilled artist capturing Kashmir’s beauty through paintings, music or literature for the world to cherish.
Every fulfilled actor, athlete, chef, writer, social worker and creative professional adds unique value to the rich tapestry of our community. Their pursuits nourish the human soul and bind us together through shared experiences.
By forcing every student into just the medical or engineering mold, we risk squandering the precious skills and passions that make each individual special. A blinkered focus on science subjects leaves little room for students to explore their true callings as poets, sportspersons, environmentalists or entrepreneurs.
The NEET exam, though important for aspiring doctors, has become an unhealthy obsession. A student’s entire self-worth hinges on clearing this one test, leaving little space for diverse interests to blossom. This myopic rat-race is emotionally damaging for our youth.
Kashmir’s future would be brighter if we allowed and encouraged students to follow their hearts, not just herd mentality. A society with doctors, yes, but also thriving entrepreneurs, sportspersons, performers, social reformers and more is a truly prosperous one.
So let’s open our minds and nurture the amazing variety of talent blossoming in our young people. Their unique gifts in music, business, activism and countless other fields will only enrich our paradise on earth. For happy, fulfilled individuals build a happier, more vibrant Kashmir.
